Senses to love

Ultimately, you have to engage and balance your senses to love mutually.

Never had I ever thought of being in a romantic relationship with someone. Before 2023, all I ‘want’ to know was those cute little things around me: journaling, roaming around a unique neighborhood, or constantly amusing myself by cafe hopping to try new dishes.

I barely realized that I had been doing it on autopilot mode. Perhaps it was how my entire being addressed my fear of being hurt by others. I guess that’s just the way it was. So, I had been doing everything alone, for myself.

Before the early summer of June 2023, my best friends were my only ‘significant others,’ aside from my family. Yes, they were, but not until ‘someone I used to know’ unexpectedly inquired about something to me. I didn’t assume anything was off; I thought he was just casually asking for information which I might know the answer to.

Truth be told, he always tried to keep the conversation going every day, so we talked around the clock.

As we all know, when two people converse, they don’t just use their mouths but also their brains and both ears. And sometimes they also use their eyes.

Long story short, we are together.

The first quarter was the hardest because this is my first time being in such relationship. I also noticed that both of us hadn’t engaged all our senses in this — should be mutual — ‘love’. I was the first one who corrected how I usually responded to every obstacle that occurred between us.

I let my emotions take over, so my logic got clouded. It was a learning process, realizing that love requires not just emotional devotion, but also a balance of logic and reason. That’s when I have to also engage my brain.

We finally talked it through, but this time, we approached it differently. We really made an effort to understand each other, using all our senses to communicate. We discussed everything that was making our relationship feel like it was stuck in a never-ending drama. It felt really good to clear the air and start moving forward together.

We survived but are still surviving. 😊
